   One suggestion to make the plugin look neater is to add the following:

   COLS=”70″

   (or any other number of choice; “70″ looks good with my settings) to the section for the e-mail addresses and the URIs. This will spread the box out to where in the majority of cases, the horizontal scroll bar will not have to appear and you can see the ful e-mail or URI.

   I will try this code to see if it will block banned spam. Akismet catches the spam and flags it for review but there must be some way that Akismet can pick up the patterns (most of my spam is repetitive with the same content) and totally block it.

    This is an extremely simple plugin at the moment. All it will do is send the forbidden HTTP header, and kill the execution of the application. If they are in a wordpress directory where the plugins are used, they will get a blank screen anywhere they attempt to go.

Tengo menos de 10 horas de haber migrado de WP 1.51 (el cual debo decir me funcionaba de maravilla) al nuevo WP 2.04 y ya son exactamente 63 comentarios Spam que he recibido, durante el transcurso de estas 10 horas he reinstalado el plugin de Akismet y continúa el SPAM, instalé un plugin denominado Bannage, el cual te permite crear una especie de lista negra con direcciones de correo, direcciones IP y websites a los cuales quieres prohibirle el acceso a dejar un comentario y honestamente me cansé de “banear” direcciones IP.En mi búsqueda de alguna herramienta antispam eficiente he encontrado un plugin llamado Spam Karma 2 (SK2), no funciona junto a Akismet así que he decidido desactivar Akismet y quedarme con Spam Karma 2, ojalá me funcione porque la verdad estoy empezando a perder la paciencia.     Can wildcards be used or is there some method for blocking all urls that have subdomains before the main domain? If I block a url, does that automatically block any urls with directories in the url after the domain name? For example, if I block spamsite.com, does that also block spamsite.com/spamfolder?

    I hope you don’t mind a little constructive feedback. I think your plugin has potential, but in its current state, it isn’t really that effective.

    A friend of mine has a pesky troll that he wants to ban from his blog. Although we can use the Wordpress Comment Moderation/Blacklist feature to keep the troll from commenting, I love the idea of blocking him from the site entirely. In fact, it would be awesome if eventually Bannage allowed you to sent banned commentors to a custom 403 page.

    So, I decided to try out Bannage on the site. To test it, I added an email address to be banned in the Bannage options. I then attempted to post a comment to the site using that email address. When I hit submit, I was delivered to a blank page. So far so good. However, I then went into my browser settings and cleared any cookies the site had set. After doing so, I was able to load and view the site as usual. I also noticed that the comment I submitted using the banned email address was actually posted to the site, rather than sent to the moderation queue or into the void as I would have expected.

    So, for the time being I think this is something that could be useful in tandem with the Comment Moderation/Blacklisting already built into Wordpress, but not as useful as I hoped on its own. I look forward to seeing how any continued development goes.

    I used this plugin to ban and email and I tested it out using the baneed email addy.After hitting the post button I got a 403 page and could not access the site anymore until I turned the plugin off, which is great.Unfortunately the original comment went through anyway even though I was banned from the site.

    though having a website with merely 400 uniques a day, I get shitloads of spam, roughly 25 comments a day.

    this plugin doesnt realy work,
    real pitty. because the idea is rather sweet!!

    Spammers keep getting through.
    added their ip/names/etc.

    Can you make Bannage work to ban IPs not just in comments, but also in conjunction with other plug-ins? I use WP-Email, which is great, except for one spammer who keeps using it to send emails using my site.

    It’s our well-known linebreak problem that causes this plugin to not work for certain people. I had the same problem, because when I banned my own IP, I could just open the site anyhow. I added a small code that stripped each IP address line in the array $banner_ips to just the bare IP address, and it works now. Easiest thing to do is call a foreach() loop over the array, and trim() each row.

    Example (I hope it’s readable after I published it):

    $ip){
    $banned_ips[$id] = trim($ip);
    }
    ?>

    This fixes your problem.

    I’m using bannage, but i have found that instead of blocking comments from particular IPs, it just blocks that ips from going on the website altogether.

    Any reason for this?

    I installed Bannage, activated it, and tried to insert an IP of a spammer. Then when I hit “Update” it says “Cannot Load Bannage.php”.

    I don’t know if the default 1’s in each field should stay there or not, but I tried it both with and without. Any ideas?

    Hey dudes,

    Where does bannage put the blocked IP information. I don’t see anything in the WordPress folders on my site like a .htaccess file where this information goes. The program does seem to be stopping spamers after I put in a big exclusion list with a lot of asterisks, because I don’t see anything new in the akismet spam comments box after a couple of hours of using bannage. Normally I would have had at least a hundred spam comments in the akismet box.

    Just need to know where the IP info is stored. I dont see it in the bannage php page in the WordPress plugin folder.

    Any feed back on this?

    I’m not sure that I am familar with the conflict you’re experiencing. Could you email me a screenshot? justinshattuck at gmail?

    The fields are stored in the wordpress database. Bannage is executed before Akismet, in the header of the page when it loads. It is simply redirecting the user when their ip meets the criteria you specify in Bannage.

    I guess this plugin in cookie-based. If the banned user deactivate cookies, he will not be banned and the comment will be posted anyway.
    If cookies activated, the banned
    user will get the white-screen all over, but his comment will be published.
    If the user removes the cookie, it’s possible to get full view of the blog again and also can check his given comment (if no additional spam-machine is active)
    I testet it on local machine-server and got this result.
    Better would be, the comment will be deleted and not published, as to show the user the white screens, what only works with active cookies.
    I look forward to a newer version of this plugin.

     [...] As soon as I started hosting the blog on the new domain I was besieged by spam comments.  Akismet for WordPress blogs helps to control this problem.  But I also use Bannage, and by banning the IP of offending posters, I have experienced a dramatic drop in spam comments.  Even though I get the hits, I don’t see the spam.  It’s refreshing!  For the convenience of other bloggers I will list my banned IPs here.  I recommend sharing this kind of information among the blogging community.      It simply doesnt work.
     If I enter:
     *abc*
     as forbidden username

     and/or
     *abc*@*

     as forbidden email
     I can still make comments when I enter name and/or email containing “abc” (examples: abc80, abc@domain.com, …)

     Do I have to do anything else to make it work?

     I looked into the code. I cant find the place where the check logic is hooked into the page.
     It looks like bannage.php should be included in template file for example (after wp framework init).
     Am I correct?

     Jhad, you are correct. Comment Relish Version 2 was just released yesterday and I am in the process of going over the Bannage code and fixing it up. Could you give me say a week and check back?
